Earlier this week, Governor Wolf took decisive action to end the House Republicans’ manufactured budget debacle and to move on from the Republicans’ repeated failure and obstruction. Throughout the week, editorials and leaders around Pennsylvania have joined Gov. Wolf in chastising the House Republicans for their failure to act.
“Mike Turzai and Dave Reed are failed leaders of a completely dysfunctional caucus that are hurting Pennsylvanians every single day,” said Beth Melena, communications director for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. “House Republicans have placed partisanship over what is the responsible thing to do for the people of Pennsylvania, which is enacting a severance tax to ensure big oil and gas companies pay their fair share.”

“Moments after the state House rejected a bid to use an obscure procedural move to force action on a tax on gas drillers, Gov. Tom Wolf announced he’s no longer waiting for lawmakers to act and he’s moving on his own…. This all comes as the state is now in its fourth month since the state Legislature passed a budget without a plan to fully fund it.
“House Republicans, led by Speaker Mike Turzai of Allegheny County, are responsible for the crisis.”
“Gov. Tom Wolf put House Republicans on blast Wednesday for failing to pass a state budget.”
“The GOP-controlled House, however, refused to take it up and after failing to pass its own revenue package, left Harrisburg for a six-week vacation. Their return to the state capital delivered only more failure to responsibly fund the spending it has already approved.”
