Meehan Collects $10,000 from Boehner, Stays Silent on Reckless Republican Agenda
HARRISBURG, Pa: Considering Republican Leader John Boehner has given $10,000 to Pat Meehan's campaign, Pennsylvanians deserve to hear from Pat Meehan on where he stands on Boehner's reckless agenda that puts Wall Street ahead of the middle class.
In an interview yesterday, Republican Leader John Boehner admitted that the Republican agenda that puts what's best for Wall Street ahead of seniors and middle class Pennsylvanians. Boehner shockingly confessed he supports ripping the rug out from underneath Pennsylvania seniors that have worked hard and paid their dues by raising the Social Security retirement age to 70 and cutting benefits. Boehner also made light of the economic downturn brought on by risky practices from big banks and Wall Street firms by comparing them to an 'ant.'
"Pat Meehan owes Pennsylvanians an answer: does he agree with Leader Boehner that Wall Street reform is unnecessary and Social Security should be cut?" asked Patrick McKenna, Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman. "Considering Pat Meehan collected $10,000 in campaign cash from Republican Leader John Boehner, it's no surprise to see him silently endorsing the reckless Republican agenda."
"Pennsylvanians lost savings on Wall Street and seniors are struggling to make ends meet – the last thing they need is Pat Meehan agreeing to put their needs behind those of big business and Wall Street financiers."
Background
-"Boehner criticized the financial regulatory overhaul compromise reached last week between House and Senate negotiators as an overreaction to the financial crisis that triggered the recession. The bill would tighten restrictions on lending, create a consumer protection agency with broad oversight power and give the government an orderly way to dissolve the largest financial institutions if they run out of money." -"'This is killing an ant with a nuclear weapon,' Boehner said." [Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 06/29/10]
-"Ensuring there's enough money to pay for the war will require reforming the country's entitlement system, Boehner said. He said he'd favor increasing the Social Security retirement age to 70..." [Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, 06/29/10]
