First week's online poll analysisPosted by Chairman on March 7, 2008 - 9:38am. Good morning! My name is Dr. Lamar Pierce and I am the Chief Research Officer for Civic Science, the company that powers the new Pennsylvania Democratic Party online poll. Let me first say how excited we are to work with Chairman Rooney and the entire committee. This year promises to be a historic one for the Democratic Party and we look forward to helping party leaders better gauge the moods and opinions of Democrats in Pennsylvania. You may find it hard to believe, based on the simplicity of our three-question polls, but a great deal of research and testing has gone into our research model. By limiting the number and complexity of questions, we can provide an experience that is quick, simple, and convenient for voters. Our goal is to achieve the highest possible response rates, so that we can build a much larger and diverse sample of respondents. By reaching more people in more corners of the Commonwealth, we can generate more insightful and useful public opinion data. And by updating the poll with new questions every week, we can build an ongoing dialogue with you, the Democratic voters of Pennsylvania, to better enable Democratic leaders and candidates to represent you. We hope you find our polling feature to be interesting and rewarding, so that you will continue to participate week after week. This week, over 1,000 Pennsylvania Democrats voted in the online poll. We designed this initial poll to identify correlations among gender, national priorities, and preferences between the Democratic candidates for President. We immediately observed that while Barack Obama holds the majority of support from our sample, this support distinctly changes across gender and issue priorities. Here are a few of the interesting things we learned: • 60.3% of respondents support Barack Obama, while only 37.4% support Hillary Clinton (* It is important to note that these results, by themselves, are not necessarily representative of Pennsylvanians as a whole, nor do they claim to be predictive of an election outcome. These results are merely valuable as a means of identifying correlations and trends among a specific population of active Democratic voters.) Again, all of us at Civic Science are excited to work with the State Committee and its members in the weeks and months to come. If you ever have any questions or technical problems, please e-mail us at simon@civicscience.com. With Kindest Regards, |

First of all Obama is not a radical Muslim and nor is he is an elitist. He has come up the hardway . His white grandparents raised him for most of his life. He made only 4.2million from his books compared to Billary -109 million. Then Hillary takes whisky shot to show off that she is able to connect with average joe. WOW foolish people will fall for her. Ohio already paid the price by voting for Bush during both elections....take the hint from that loser state...we need a uniter not a divider, who is always negative and plays dirty politics. The last debate showed that Hillary had to put salt on stupid issues like Jermiah Wright and the anchors were for the Clintons. I prefer Bill Clinton anyday but his wife is not worth trusting and she will do anything to win the election. I am a woman and I cannot respect woman who lie and mudsling and then pretend to be a caring politician. If a woman has to run for this country then she has to be herself. why don't we let Debbie Stabanaw run....
Alright then go ahead and vote her even after knowing her desperation to win the candidacy.....yeah she is experienced like her experience brought many changes during bush administration...she plays politics very well and she will stoop down to any level because she is entitled to win...
Who are you ? the ignorant American???
I agree that Clinton has the most experience and can take heat under pressure unlike Obama - speaking of which who is Larry Sinclair -
Where are the Democrates in this election! We have a radical muslim and a ex-first lady. Where Did Christopher Dodd go? How did my party make such a stupid choice!
Please Pennsylvania vote for the best candidate for change:Hillary Clinton. There are too many things I now know about Obama that I wouldn't vote for Hillary in the general election if he were on the ticket.I was so offended by his pastor, but I'm far more bothered by his ties with William Ayers. As of now I don't trust him,and giving wonderful speeches won't make me feel otherwise.I need some legitimate answers from Obama. He looks very weak when it comes to these issues.
After watching interview after interview with black leaders it’s apparent the black community thinks that these types of Sermons are Ok and it appears that this is “normal” in the black community. When you have the black Churches preaching hatred towards others and slamming America, this explains why racism is alive and strong today. It’s evident that there is more than 30 seconds of these hateful Sermons, which the black community is trying to convince us of otherwise. We feel like we have done our part in riding racism, but its apparent the black community has keep it alive and strong.
Most American’s find these types of Sermons insulting and damaging to the community. Most Americans couldn’t image going to Church and hearing this hatred and anti-America messages. Most Americans believe that Church is a place to go to feed the soul, to be empowered, and spiritually enlightened. Most Americans believe that Sermons should not include hate towards others and slamming America.
Knowing that Obama was a member and financial supporter of this Church speaks volumes. He has empowered this Church and Reverend to Perpetuate Hate. It couldn’t be any clearer on how wrong this is. Obama speaks of bringing people together on the race issue, but he is a member of a racist Church. Americans find this HYPOCRITICAL
Hillary Clinton has always been a strong activist on Human/Civil Rights...to suggest she is racist is reckless and most importantly wrong.
We'll Obama has less experience...What has he accomplished in the Senate...He has only been able to pass 1 bill he authored...Hillary has authored many that have been passed... she has been involved in Politics for at least 20 years...Don't you remember while she was in the White House she was being suppressed because of her involvement...She had a front row seat to how the White House worked...Please
I hope the Democrats understand that Obama will lose in the General and this is why. Not one of us Democrats or Independents in my Circle will vote for him.
Obama has had a 20-year relationship with this Reverend and Church. The Reverend is his spiritual adviser. Its fact that this Church is radical, racist, preaches hate towards others, and slams America. This Church is unashamedly black and has a non-negotiable commitment to Africa (not America). Obama has financially supported this Church. How can he bring people together with the race issue, when he is a member of a racist church??? Couldn't be any clearer.
Obama is setting a standard here that I would think most of us want nothing to do with. By donating money to this Church he has empowered it. WE CANNOT have a President affiliated with such a radical, racist organization that perpetuates HATE. Everything about this is wrong for AMERICA and what America is about.
Every time Obama and black leaders try to justify this Church the more outraged many of Americans become. Every time they side step the issue they lose credibility with us. Obama needs acknowledges how wrong this is, and step down.
The party is being destroyed because of his relationship with this Church, and the black community rallying behind Obama and the Church.
Please SAVE the PARTY, STEP DOWN OBAMA.
How dirty are some of these big energy companies, too bad Karen Silkwood isn't around today, and she could tell us all, but oh yea, she was killed mysteriously while working for Ker-Mcgee at a plutonium plant. How dirty is G. E.? Pretty dirty if they think they can treat Americans like we live in a Communist Country!
They have monopolized the media and are attacking the Clinton's all day every day, and we all know why, so they can get one of the two candidates they have bought and paid for elected, Obama or McCain.
Hilliary, pledging to uphold the constitution of the US against all foreign and domestic enemies is a joke. What really happened in Bosnia? How can we get change if we keep rewarding the same old behavior? I want to know what city, pizza palor and hospital this unnamed woman was in that died because she didn't have $100 for medical services after losing her unborn child. Doesn't that sound too Hilliary to you?
I find it really pitiful that Democrats believe that Hillary's experience as 1st Lady qualifies her for president. She learned to street fight with Bill....is that we have evolved into? She's only held one elected office, NY Senator. The extent of her policy involvment during Bill's administration has been fabricated and her one project, health care reform, was a failure. This is America and you can vote for anyone you choose, but to hold her up as the banner for experience, leadership and valor is rediculous. I also question the ethics of people who say Obama is not qualified, but voted for Ronald Regan. What were his credentials? Could it be.......?
I keep up with the REAL polls and Hillary is winning.
Obama supporters support Pennsylvania more than Clinton supporters--just go to donorschoose.org
http://www.donorschoose.org/donors/leadershipboard.html?category=25
This is an organization that helps teachers fund specific projects, and Stephan Colbert announced late this week that people should go there and show support for their candidate by donating to PA school projects in the name of their candidate. (Does not benefit candidates.)
Dollars # donors Ave per donor% of $ % of donors
Obama's name $39,614 634 $62.48 78% 88%
Clinton's name $10,937 88 $124.28 22% 12%
Total so far $50,551 722 $70.02 100% 100%
This says something about the Colbert Report audiance, but also about the campaigns.
You draw your own conclusions.
Too bad only one thousand people voted here. This is not representative of the Pa Dems I know.
The best scientific polls show Sen. Clinton well ahead of Sen. Obam in all parts of Pa, including Philly.
Hillary supporters in this state will put her over the top and on the way to a well deserved nomination.
Your polling numbers are very interesting - keep gathering information!
I truly hope your numbers are indicative of the real vote and we can end this thing right here, in Pennsylvania, in April. The longer the primary season goes on, the more damage is done to the Democratic party.
Whether you like it or not, I really believe that Hilary is going to get the democratic nomination. I happen to like it, but respect those who don't
I am simply shocked by the racist turn in the Clinton campaign. Why did they even get involved with G. Ferraro after her racist comments about Jesse Jackson several years ago? Why didn't they throw her off the campaign after her latest statements? Why is Bill Clinton engaging in racist talk? In the end those superdelegates will have to decide if they want to pay homage to the past and go with the Clintons and thus turn off the next generation of democrats who have been truly energized by the Obama campaign, or do they want to step up and support a candidate who is taking the party in a new direction and who has a chance of winning the White House. I will never speak against Hillary and I abhor the horrible sexist remarks being made about her. She is an intelligent person with fine campaign positions. That said, her decision to put politics above people in her vote for the Iraq War shows that she is motivated more by winning than by serving. And now, when the big test comes, she chooses disunity by failing to throw Ferraro off of her campaign.
I agree. If Hillary continues to say that John McCain is preferable to Obama, I will not vote for her!
The results are at the top of the front page.
If you choose Senator Obama because you HATE Senator Clinton, then you are a minority in PA. That type of trash talk may happen at other states, but here in PA it's not tolerated. The ISSUES are at the forfront and if you can't make you choice based on the issues then you need to re-prioritize your hostile effort.
PA Don't Play!!!
Now let real supporters and surrogates do the real supporting.

Keep the PASSION...Loose the HATE!!!
I think we would have been better served with a few more questions. I want to have a Democrat as a President so I am voting for Obama. There is enough talent in the US to keep this country from being a Bush or Clinton dynasty. I cant stand Hillary so if Obama doesn't win, then I shall consider voting for anyone opposing Hilary.
Hi all!
We used to love Hillary, but ...
"Per the Toronto Globe and Mail, in a story that was the lead on the paper's front page today, that call to the Canadian embassy was actually from the Clinton campaign, not Obama's!"
Her website stated "SHE IS FOR LEGALIZING IMMIGRANTS"! She also wanted to give NY drivers licenses to all illegal immigrants. Here are her stances in these issues:
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has a Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act"
Clinton, Hagel, Menendez Introduce Measure to Remove Barriers to Reunification for Immigrant Families
Senator Clinton Calls for Quicker Action on Citizenship Applications
Clinton Calls for an Emergency Halt to Deportation of Haitian Immigrants
She's going to bring down this country with benefits for illegal immegrants so they can support her Corp friends!
Why are the results of this poll not featured on the front page of the PADEMS website? Has a press release been issued? Are these results being buried because they overwhelmingly favor Barack Obama, the grassroots choice, and not the candidate who is the choice of the PA's party machine?
