Meet the Vice Chair

Penny Gerber, Vice-Chair of Pennsylvania's Democratic Party, has served as a precinct committee person for over 30 years and as an elected member of State Committee for over16 years. Prior to her election as Vice-Chair, Penny served as Chair of the Southeast Caucus of the State Party, a position she held for 12 years. She has been an elected delegate to 3 Democratic National Conventions, and has also served on the Platform and Credentials Committees.

Penny has volunteered for many campaigns, including those of the late Governor Bob Casey, U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Ed Rendell's races for District Attorney, Mayor and Governor, as well as her son Mike’s three successful races for a state House seat never before held by a Democrat. Mike is the State Representative from Montgomery County and current Chairman of the Pennsylvania House Democratic Campaign Committee as well as Treasurer of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee headquartered in Washington D.C.

Penny has had a successful business career in a variety of fields including banking and media and issue advocacy. Formerly, she served as the CEO of a union bus company. Her community and public service activities are many and varied. For example, she serves as Vice-Chair of the Pennsylvania Public Television Commission, her Township’s Planning Commission, and Montgomery County's Welfare Board, and she has worked tirelessly as a volunteer for the University of Pennsylvania Health System, including chairing its major fund-raiser, the world-renowned Philadelphia Antiques Show.

Penny's late husband, Dick Gerber, served as a member of the DNC and was Chair of the Pennsylvania Securities Commission under Govs. Casey, Ridge and Rendell.  She has 3 grown children, Peter, Courtney Gerber Kunzelmann, and State Rep. Michael Gerber, and is blessed with 6 young grandchildren whom she enjoys enormously.
