Recent Poll Shows Congressman Carney Popular and Ready for Re-Election
RECENT POLL SHOWS CONGRESSMAN CARNEY POPULAR AND READY FOR RE-ELECTION
HARRISBURG: PA Democratic Party Chairman T. J. Rooney today announced the results of a recent poll that shows Congressman Chris Carney (D-Dimock Township) not only as popular and well known in the 10th Congressional District but that he also holds overwhelming leads over two unknown potential Republican candidates. Rooney said that according to a poll released by the American Hospital Association PAC performed by Momentum Analysis, Carney enjoys a 58 percent favorability rating while more than 52 percent of the 400 likely voters polled felt that President Bush was performing unsatisfactorily. Even half of registered Republicans rated Carney favorably in his first term at 50 percent. Carney leads Republicans Dan Meuser and Chris Hackett by more than 30 points each. The poll found that neither Meuser nor Hackett were well known. Less than one in 10 knew Meuser (8 percent) while Hackett was slightly better off (15 percent) after having run two weeks of radio ads prior to the poll. In head-to-head competition, Carney outperformed Meuser (53-24) while maintaining a higher lead over Hackett (55-25). “These numbers not only show that Congressman Carney has done an excellent job in his district but that he also enjoys support with Republican voters that should be very discouraging to the Republican candidates,” Rooney said. “Congressman Carney is well known, popular and well regarded with most voters in the 10th Congressional District." “Republicans will have a difficult time running in 2008 as the President’s numbers continue to sag profusely not only in the 10th Congressional District but throughout Pennsylvania and the nation.” Interviews for the poll were conducted by telephone December 6-9, 2007 with the use of a voter file. The margin of error for the overall sample is +/- 4.9 percent. |
