Corbett Pushes Sen. Rafferty Out of AG Race; Chosen Candidate Faces Conflicts of Interest
Today, Sen. John Rafferty announced he was suspending his campaign for Attorney General after Gov. Tom Corbett threw his support behind David Freed. Freed enters the race facing a severe conflict of interest in one of the most important cases facing the incoming Attorney General.
"Tom Corbett pushed a candidate out of the Attorney General race in favor of a candidate facing significant conflicts of interest," said Pennsylvania Democratic spokesperson Mark Nicastre. "With the conflicts of interest facing David Freed, he cannot be expected to act independently while in office. It's troubling that Tom Corbett is willing to ignore these conflicts of interest, and it shows that Pennsylvanians should question his judgment. Pennsylvanians need to trust that their Attorney General will stand up for them, not special interests or their own self-interest, and it's clear they won't get that from David Freed."
