13 DAYS UNTIL THE U.S. DEFAULTS THANKS TO PAT TOOMEY AND SENATE REPUBLICANS

Senator Toomey risks sending the United States into an economic catastrophe just for the sake of Mitch McConnell’s political games

PENNSYLVANIA —  Last week Senator Pat Toomey voted against raising the debt ceiling, putting the U.S. at risk of an economic catastrophe. Senator Toomey has repeatedly voted to raise the debt ceiling before. But with less than two weeks to go before the October 18th deadline, Toomey now refuses to take this critical step to protect our jobs and economy in Pennsylvania.

If Toomey continues to stand in the way of meeting his obligation to respect the full faith and credit of the United States, our country will face dire consequences like:

  • Plunging our economy into a recession and losing jobs
  • Causing interest rates to go up, raising mortgage and car payments for working families
  • Risking Social Security benefits for seniors and shirking retirement savings
  • Jeopardizing salaries for service members and benefits for veterans

Senator Toomey has received criticism across the commonwealth, calling out GOP’s efforts as galactic dissonance for a party that’s tried to portray itself as a champion of fiscal responsibility.  His own constituents are calling on him to stop with the political games. Just last week, a PA small business owner said Sen. Toomey’s debt ceiling games risk disaster for his business.

“Toomey has made clear he’s not going to do the responsible thing and raise the debt limit to cover money he and the rest of the GOP has already spent. Democrats are willing to do all the work of stopping this economic catastrophe. But if Toomey won’t help us save the country, he needs to get out of the way so he doesn’t destroy it,” said PA Dems spokesperson Rosie Lapowsky.
