A new independent poll shows Democratic challenger Ron DiNicola surging ahead of GOP U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly as the 16th Congressional District race heads to the finish line.

In a poll conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research for ABC27 News in Harrisburg, DiNicola, an Erie attorney, leads Kelly, R-3, Butler, 51 to 47 percent with 6 percent undecided and 5 percent choosing another candidate.

“These results confirm what Ron and volunteers are hearing up and down the district,” said Tony Coppola, DiNicola’s campaign manager, in a statement. “Ron’s experience as a Marine and taking on the federal government to benefit western Pennsylvanians is resonating with voters because he shares their values and has a track record of helping working families.”

The 16th District includes Lawrence, Mercer, Crawford and Erie counties, and part of Butler County.
