Pennsylvania Democratic Party Statement On Trump’s National Emergency Declaration

Pennsylvania Democratic Party Executive Director Sinceré Harris issued the following statement:

“This so-called emergency declaration is just another example of the President’s misplaced priorities and selfish values. Millions of Americans are dying from the opioid epidemic. Schools, churches, clubs, and concerts have been made unsafe because of the scourge of gun violence. Flint, Michigan still does not have clean water. California is flooding and North Dakota is freezing because of climate change. Puerto Rico is still recovering from monstrous hurricanes and federal neglect. Working Americans are struggling to pay bills because their wages have not gone up with the cost of living. These are national emergencies that the country needs to handle. This wall is nothing but a monument to the President’s hate and racism, and it will forever stand as a reminder of the shamefulness of this administration. I urge Congress to do its constitutional duty to check the President’s abuse of power and refocus our priorities to actually better the lives of the people they represent.”
