Why Doesn’t Pat Toomey Want To Hear John Bolton’s Testimony?

PENNSYLVANIA – Earlier this week President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, John Bolton, said he would be willing to testify in the Senate impeachment trial. This could present new, important, and firsthand information in the impeachment trial of President Trump. However, Pat Toomey yesterday refused to support subpoenaing John Bolton to testify.

“Pat Toomey is refusing to support subpoenaing John Bolton to testify because he doesn’t want to hear the evidence Bolton would provide against Trump,” said Beth Melena, senior communications advisor for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. “Rather than support a fair and impartial trial, Pat Toomey is shirking his constitutional duty and backing Mitch McConnell’s sham of an impeachment trial. Pat Toomey has already made it clear that he will not be an independent juror and represent the people of Pennsylvania.”

“When asked specifically if he would vote to subpoena Bolton, Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn said: “I’m not going to tell you how l’m going to vote on something that hasn’t happened yet.” “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” said John Thune, the No. 2 Senate Republican. ‘We’ll see,’ Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Pat Toomey remarked.” [CNN, 1/7/20]

“I am not convinced that a lengthy trial in which every tangentially related character is called to testify. I’m not convinced that that is in the interest of the American people or that is something the American people want to go through, especially since the outcome seems to be pretty clear.” [Rich Zeoli Show, 12/18/19]
