PENNSYLVANIA — Today, Vice President Joe Biden unveiled a bold plan to advance racial equity in America. This leadership contrasts with Donald Trump, who has left Black and Brown Pennsylvanians behind at every opportunity.
“Four years ago, Donald Trump tried to sell himself to Black Americans by asking us ‘What the hell do you have to lose?’ It turns out we’ve lost a whole lot under the Donald Trump presidency,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party Vice-Chair Senator Sharif Street. “We’ve watched Donald Trump go after our health care, undermine civil rights protections, and in recent months, fail to address the COVID-19 pandemic which is disproportionately killing Black and Brown Americans.
If Donald Trump were serious about keeping us healthy, he wouldn’t be in court right now trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and undermine Medicaid expansion, which cut the uninsured rate by half for Black Pennsylvanians. If he were serious about creating economic opportunity for everyone, he wouldn’t have tried to make it easier for banks to discriminate against borrowers of color and his COVID-19 relief program would not have shut out Black business owners.
And if he was serious about addressing systemic racism in the criminal justice system and keeping us safe, he wouldn’t have tweeted a video promoting ‘white power’ or threatened to send federal troops to Philadelphia for political gain. It’s clear that Donald Trump has little interest in improving the lives of Black and Brown families in this country and will even work to suppress our voices — that’s why we’re ready to defeat him in November.”
