512 DAYS LATER: DOUG MASTRIANO IS STILL TALKING ABOUT THE JAN. 6 INSURRECTION & THE 2020 ELECTION

Instead of addressing the current issues facing Pennsylvanians, Doug Mastriano is still talking about the Jan. 6 insurrection, and his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election — he’s focused on the past, not the present or future.

PENNSYLVANIA — It’s 512 days after the Jan. 6 insurrection, but Republican nominee for Governor, Doug Mastriano, is still talking about his involvement in the insurrection and his attempts to throw out Pennsylvanians’ votes, instead of focusing on the issues that matter most to Pennsylvania families. According to new reporting by POLITICO, the bipartisan Jan. 6 Committee’s investigation into Mastriano’s efforts to help overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election saw a significant development this week.

Mastriano’s previously unreported cooperation with the Capitol attack probe came in the form of a submission, obtained by POLITICO, that includes documents about his work to arrange buses that carried pro-Trump protesters to Washington on Jan. 6, 2021.

While “the Jan. 6 select committee received materials this week” from the GOP gubernatorial candidate, here’s a look back at Mastriano’s long record of undermining democracy:

Mastriano attended the Jan. 6 insurrection that left 140 police officers injured: Despite claiming that he left before violence started, video shows Mastriano crossed police barricades and paid thousands of dollars to bus Pennsylvanians to the Capitol that day. One Doug Mastriano supporter was arrested for encouraging an assault on a New York Times photographer at the Capitol, and a member of his gubernatorial campaign was photographed smiling “as rioters smash[ed] media equipment on Capitol grounds.” Mastriano’s involvement in the insurrection led to a Congressional subpoena.

Mastriano was the original architect of Harrisburg Republicans’ sham election “audit:” Harrisburg Republicans’ sham election “audit” risks nine million Pennsylvanians’ personal, private information on behalf of the Big Lie.

Mastriano tried to decertify the 2020 election results and has threatened to decertify voting machines: Mastriano signed on to a letter calling for forensic audits in all 50 states and the possible decertification of results following the 2020 presidential election. Now, Mastriano wants to force all Pennsylvania voters to re-register to vote, and is refusing to share who he has selected to become Pennsylvania’s next Secretary of State. Mastriano also said he could throw out Pennsylvanians’ votes if he disagrees with the outcome by decertifying all of the state’s voting machines “with the stroke of a pen.”

“512 days after the Jan. 6 insurrection, Doug Mastriano is still spending his time focusing on his efforts to help overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election — a long shadow that will continue to follow him throughout this campaign,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “Doug Mastriano continues to obsess over election conspiracies, instead of focusing on the issues that matter most to Pennsylvanians like improving education, keeping our communities safe, and lowering costs. He’s made clear that he doesn’t care about Pennsylvanians’ voices — or their votes. He’s a danger to our democracy and Pennsylvanians deserve better.”
