PENNSYLVANIA – As reports of SCOTUS’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade escalates the stakes of the 2022 Senate race, David McCormick and Mehmet Oz have made it clear that they are committed to attacking reproductive freedoms if elected.
Last week on a debate stage the entire GOP Senate primary field opposed abortion rights, even in cases of rape and incest. Today both McCormick and Oz doubled down on their radical stances.
In an interview with Laura Ingraham, McCormick celebrated the reported overturn of Roe v. Wade:
“If in fact the decision of the court turns out to be what was in this brief, this would be a huge step forward and a huge victory for the protection of life, which is certainly where the conservative and Republican Party is in Pennsylvania and a number of Democrats. And this is an issue on the campaign trail, it’s already been a flash point. I’m someone who’s pro-life, who’s been pro-life.”
Oz also celebrated the potential overturn of Roe v. Wade, calling the ruling “wrong” and promising to support further “pro-life legislation”.
Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Jack Doyle issued the following statement:
“If true, the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade escalates the stakes of the 2022 election. David McCormick and Mehmet Oz have made it clear they would support efforts to outlaw abortion and restrict access to birth control and women’s health care. The best way to protect long term reproductive freedoms is to protect and expand the Democratic Senate majority, and Pennsylvania’s Senate race represents the best opportunity to do that.”
