Candidate Spotlight: Erin McClelland

Erin McClelland is a healthcare professional, behavioral healthcare expert, businesswoman and Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in the 12th district. She has nearly 20 years of experience in the behavioral health field and has worked as an Executive Director, researcher, process improvement specialist, policy representative and entrepreneur.

A life-long resident of the Alle-Kiski Valley in the heart of the 12th Congressional District, she graduated from St. Joseph High School in Natrona Heights, received her Bachelor degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master of Science degree from Chatham University.

As the Practice Improvement Collaborative Manager at the Institute of Research Education and Training in Addiction, Erin was trained by the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative under the direction of former Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill to implement forward-thinking systems in healthcare to reduce waste and errors, improve performance, and decrease costs.

Erin served on the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy’s 25 Cities Initiative, addressing heroin addiction in Western PA. She has been published and featured as a healthcare expert numerous times on broadcast news.  She stands with the working families of Western PA, and believes they deserve better. That’s why Erin does simply talk about change – she works to make it happen, and is dedicated to moving this region forward and bringing the focus back to local issues and solutions.

In Congress, Erin will fight to strengthen and grow our middle class. Her priorities include increasing the minimum wage, fighting for fair trade deals that protect American manufacturing, reducing the cost of health care while improving quality of care, protecting Social Security and Medicare, investing in public education, and tackling the opioid addiction problem in Pennsylvania.
