Congress voted this week on a bill to undo rules that prevented your internet service provider from selling your browsing history. This means that your internet company will now be able to sell your personal internet history, like your browsing keywords, your shopping preferences, and your location to the highest bidder without your consent. The bill has now reached President Trump’s desk for his signature.
“This vote is a clear indication that Pennsylvania’s Republican representatives care more about special interests than the privacy of their constituents,” said Brandon Cwalina, spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.
The Verge compiled a list of the telecom industry’s contributions to Pennsylvania politicians – contributions, it seems, that made it easier for Pennsylvania Republicans to vote for this bill. Every Democratic Pennsylvania representative voted against this bill.
