PENNSYLVANIA — It hasn’t even been a full week since Republicans chose “QAnon-Loving Election Denier” Doug Mastriano to be their nominee for Governor, but Mastriano is already dodging questions from local press on his far-right agenda. NBC10 reporter Lauren Mayk attempted to ask Mastriano about his efforts to relitigate the 2020 presidential election, including his plans to make all Pennsylvania voters re-register to vote if elected Governor. Mastriano’s team slammed the door in her face.

“Once again, Doug Mastriano shows why he’s the most dangerous gubernatorial candidate in Pennsylvania history — he’s not just a part of the fringe far-right, but the leader of it, and more extreme than even Trump himself,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “Our next Governor will have the power to certify election results, appoint the Secretary of State, and protect or restrict Pennsylvanians’ right to vote — Pennsylvanians deserve answers from Doug Mastriano about his dangerous plans to attack our democracy and take away our rights.”

While Mastriano hid from the media and refused to answer questions in the primary, he eagerly campaigned with insurrectionists, QAnon conspiracy theorists, and Steve Bannon. Now, he’s picking up right where he left off less than a week into the general election. In case you missed it, check out Mastriano’s latest refusal to answer for his dangerous agenda.

NBC10:

TRANSCRIPT: We tried repeatedly throughout the primary campaign to reach Senator Mastriano’s campaign, we requested interviews and never got a response. I reached out again after the primary election but still didn’t hear back. So now that he is the nominee, we decided to make the drive to Harrisburg to talk to Senator Mastriano because we feel it’s important to hear directly from candidates for office.

Mayk: When President Trump endorsed you, he said that you would do something about what he called the theft of the 2020 election. What is it that you think he expects you to do?

Mastriano: Restore people’s confidence in their ability to vote. So, every vote counts and every legal vote matters.

Mayk: Would you be willing to relitigate the 2020 election? Can you tell me why you think people would…

Mayk: Now we did have more questions but Senator Mastriano did not stop to talk to us the rest of the time we were there. Senator Mastriano will be going up against Attorney General Josh Shapiro in the general election in November.
