DAVID MCCORMICK IS A THREAT TO PROGRAMS EXPANDING ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE

David McCormick Placed a Target on Medicare and Threatened the Inflation Reduction Act, Which Lowers Health Care Costs for Millions of Pennsylvanians

PENNSYLVANIA — With March 23rd marking the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act being signed into law, Connecticut hedge fund executive and mega-millionaire David McCormick’s past criticism of those who support the ACA, threats to Medicare, and opposition to the Inflation Reduction Act are under scrutiny.

During his 2022 Senate campaign, McCormick pushed to put Medicare on the chopping block, a move that would increase health care costs and rip away benefits earned through a lifetime of work from millions of Pennsylvanians. McCormick also criticized his 2022 primary opponent for supporting the Affordable Care Act. In 2023, David McCormick said he wanted to “roll back” the Inflation Reduction Act, which allows Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug costs for millions of seniors in America. It is projected to save seniors $400 per year on many critical, life-saving drugs.

Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson TaNisha Cameron issued the following statement:

“David McCormick doesn’t support the Affordable Care Act and wants to gut Medicare and repeal the Inflation Reduction Act while he works to protect tax giveaways for big corporations and the wealthiest Americans. McCormick can’t be trusted to put hardworking Pennsylvanians ahead of his Wall Street friends and his own bottom line.”

Here’s David McCormick’s Record on the Affordable Care Act and Medicare:

  • McCormick criticized his 2022 primary opponent for supporting the Affordable Care Act.
    • “Dave McCormick […] attacked his 2022 Senate race primary opponent Mehmet Oz for being insufficiently opposed to Obamacare, calling that “counter to conservatism & in line with Hollywood.”

    • McCormick: “So the path through this is […] a tightening of the belt […] And as I said, there’s entitlements and a number of other drivers of that.” [John Fredericks Radio Show, 11/16/23; 4:40]
  • McCormick said entitlements like Medicare “aren’t sustainable” and that he doesn’t think children “are going to be able to live under the same entitlements that all of us here are.”
  • McCormick said he wanted to “roll back” the Inflation Reduction Act, which allows Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors.
    • McCormick: “What happened under Biden with these huge, enormous pieces of legislation – the Inflation Reduction Act […] We got to roll that back.”.” [John Fredericks Radio Show, 10/3/23; 41:21]
