DEMOCRATS PASS MONUMENTAL INFRASTRUCTURE PACKAGE, BUT WHERE DO THE FAR-RIGHT PA-GOV CANDIDATES STAND?

The small number of Republicans who voted for the package, […] came under criticism from fellow conservatives who said they had helped advance President Biden’s agenda.

PENNSYLVANIA — Over the weekend, Congressional Democrats passed President Biden’s historic infrastructure package — but after Donald Trump and far-right extremists threatened Republicans who support the bill, will the Republican candidates for Governor stand up for Pennsylvanians or continue to stick with Donald Trump and his MAGA base?

The infrastructure package would bring historic investments to Pennsylvania, including $11.3 billion for highways, $1.6 billion for bridges, $1.4 billion for water infrastructure improvements, and over $100 million to expand broadband.

Yet despite that, Republicans continued to follow Trump’s lead — and the candidates for Governor have refused to support the bill. Putting Pennsylvanians ahead of Trump could cost candidates like Lou Barletta, Bill McSwain and Doug Mastriano in the eyes of the MAGA base — Republicans who supported the legislation are now facing threats of messy primaries from fellow Republicans. Former President Trump even tried to sabotage the legislation, saying of Republicans who support the infrastructure package that “Republican voters will never forget their name, nor will the people of our Country.”

“Democrats are getting things done for Pennsylvanians — but the Republican candidates for Governor are busy championing the Big Lie, endorsing Texas’ abortion ban, and attacking each other to prove their loyalty to Trump,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “In a primary focused entirely on divisive, far-right policies, Pennsylvanians deserve to know: Do the Republican candidates for Governor support President Biden’s infrastructure package or will they continue to put Trump’s wants first?”
