District-Level Data Shows Full Impact Of Toomey’s Health Care Bill

With Barletta and Kelly’s Backing, Bill Forces Seniors to Pay More While Cutting Coverage for Hundreds of Thousands

On everything from ending protections for those with preexisting conditions to slashing funding for nursing home care, Senator Toomey’s bill is an outright disaster for Pennsylvania. 731,000 Pennsylvanians will lose coverage, including more than 147,000 children and 61,000 with disabilities. Those fortunate enough to not lose coverage will face higher premiums for more meager plans, with seniors bearing the brunt of the costs.

Newly released district-level data shows exactly how harmful this bill will be to communities across the Commonwealth. In Congressman Mike Kelly and Lou Barletta’s districts, 37,000 of their constituents will lose coverage, including more than 10,000 children and disabled adults in each district.

In response, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party released the following statement:

“Senator Toomey’s health care bill, with backing from Congressman Lou Barletta and Mike Kelly, would be a disaster for Pennsylvania’s seniors and families as hundreds of thousands would lose coverage and many would face higher costs,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman Max Steele. “Older lower- and middle-income Pennsylvanians should not face a 300% increase in premiums in order to cut taxes for millionaires like Pat Toomey, Lou Barletta and Mike Kelly. This bill breaks every promise Donald Trump made to working families throughout the Commonwealth and voters will hold Toomey, Barletta, and Kelly accountable for their support of it.”
