DON’T TRUST DAVE: STATE LEGISLATORS CALL OUT DAVID MCCORMICK’S DANGEROUS ANTI-CHOICE AGENDA

HuffPost: “[McCormick] Does Not Support Exceptions in Abortion Laws For Rape or Incest”

PENNSYLVANIA — Today in Media, state Senator Amanda Cappelletti and state Representative Jennifer O’Mara continued the Don’t Trust Dave Tour by holding a press conference calling out David McCormick’s dangerous anti-choice agenda, including supporting an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest.

“Women in Pennsylvania deserve the right to be able to make decisions about their own bodies,” said state Senator Amanda Cappelletti. “David McCormick has proudly touted himself as an opponent of abortion and that is a non-starter for Pennsylvanians.”

“David McCormick’s record of supporting an abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest and praising the leaked Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade as a ‘huge victory’ is appalling,” said state Representative Jennifer O’Mara. “We need to support leaders that will be champions for our rights.”

Healthcare decisions, including those concerning whether or not to have a child, should be left to a patient and their trusted physicians,” said Dr. Jessica Klemens, DO. “Pennsylvanians deserve leaders who trust women to make the right decisions for themselves.”

See Below for McCormick’s Record of Supporting a Dangerous Ban:

  • When asked directly in a debate last year whether he believed there should be exceptions for abortion in the cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother, McCormick responded only “in the very rare instances there should be exceptions for the life of the mother.”
    • Axios: “David McCormick…said during a debate in Harrisburg last month he’s fully against all scenarios involving abortion, apart from ‘in the very rare instances there should be exceptions for the life of the mother.’”
    • HuffPost: “McCormick has said that life begins at conception and that he does not support exceptions in abortion laws for rape or incest.
    • HuffPost: “McCormick said in a May 2022 debate with Oz that he supports banning abortion with an exception only when the pregnant person’s life is in danger, and not in cases of rape or incest.
    • WESA: There was no “pushback from the McCormick campaign.”
