DOUG MASTRIANO PLANS FUNDRAISER WITH RUDY GIULIANI FOR “POTENTIAL RUN FOR STATEWIDE OFFICE” AS REPUBLICANS EMBRACE TRUMP’S BIG LIE

Republicans continue to embrace the “super MAGA Trump” primary. Pennsylvanians deserve to know where the candidates stand.

PENNSYLVANIA — As Republicans across the country embrace Trump and double down on his Big Lie, Pennsylvania state Senator Doug Mastriano announced a fundraiser with Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, just one week after the FBI raided his New York City apartment in an ongoing investigation into his lobbying work. Giuliani led Donald Trump’s failed effort to spread misinformation and overturn the election, and over the past several months, he has continued to lie about the 2020 election.

According to Mastriano, Giuliani will “talk about [him], and a potential run for statewide office” at the May 15th fundraiser in Chambersburg. Like Giuliani, Mastriano has been a leader in promoting misinformation and falsehoods about the 2020 election, even using his campaign funds to pay for buses to take Trump supporters to Washington on January 6th.

“Rudy Giuliani has spent months attacking our elections and spreading lies about the 2020 election, and now Pennsylvania Republicans are doubling down on MAGA litmus tests and the same conspiracy theories that led to the January 6th insurrection,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Brendan Welch. “Doug Mastriano has made it clear that he will run on a platform of lies and conspiracy theories, and Pennsylvanians deserve to know where all of the likely statewide candidates stand.”

Mastriano is far from the only likely gubernatorial candidate who has embraced MAGA litmus tests and the “Big Lie.” Trump super-fan Lou Barletta repeated Trump and Giuliani’s false claims of voter fraud and demanded that Congress refuse to certify President Joe Biden’s election victory on January 6th. Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale said he entered the race to “continue advancing the Trump movement” and “hold bad Republicans accountable,” launching ads that repeat Trump’s false claims about the election.
