FAR-RIGHT PA-GOV CANDIDATES MUST IMMEDIATELY DENOUNCE DONALD TRUMP’S STATEMENT DEFENDING JAN. 6 INSURRECTION

“The insurrection took place on November 3, Election Day. January 6 was the Protest!” – Donald Trump

PENNSYLVANIA – The Republican candidates for Governor have spent months peddling the Big Lie and competing to become Donald Trump’s Apprentice — and yesterday Donald Trump hit another new low. In a new statement, Trump defended the January 6th insurrection and effectively claimed the 2020 election was a coup.

The Republican gubernatorial candidates are desperate for Trump’s support, but they should immediately denounce this dangerous, un-American rhetoric.

“Donald Trump’s rhetoric is escalating, and it’s putting our democracy at risk — Pennsylvania’s far-right gubernatorial candidates must disavow his dangerous, un-American statement immediately,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “Trump’s comments defending the insurrection are a slap in the face to the law enforcement officers who upheld the law and defended our Capitol on Jan. 6, and an insult to every voter who made their voice heard on election day. While the far-right candidates competing in the ‘Super MAGA’ primary have fully embraced Donald Trump and the Big Lie, voters will remember their un-American positions when they go to vote.”
