GOP PA-GOV CANDIDATES HONOR PRESIDENTS’ DAY — BY REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE LEGITIMACY OF THE LAST PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

GOP hypocrisy has reached new heights this week as the same far-right gubernatorial candidates who champion Trump’s Big Lie and refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of the last presidential election, took to social media for Presidents’ Day.

PENNSYLVANIA — The Republican candidates for Governor have been quick to champion Donald Trump’s Big Lie, and they continue to deny the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election, but that didn’t stop them from honoring Presidents’ Day on social media — once again showcasing the hypocrisy that has become a staple of their crowded, messy “Trump Primary.”

Nevertheless, no social media post will paper over the dangerous reality about the far-right candidates.

Doug Mastriano was just subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 Committee for his role spreading Donald Trump’s lies and attending the insurrection, in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Lou Barletta signed on as an “alternate elector,” and, like Bill McSwain, continues to dodge questions about whether President Biden was elected in a free and fair election. McSwain even wrote a desperate letter to Donald Trump furthering his disproven voter fraud claims, despite the fact that as U.S. Attorney, McSwain didn’t prosecute any cases of voter fraud in the 2020 election. Jake Corman’s still leading Harrisburg Republicans’ fraudit of the 2020 presidential election, despite strong objections from Pennsylvania voters and cybersecurity experts. Finally, Dave White endorsed Corman’s sham “audit” of the 2020 presidential election, and has made “election integrity” a central part of his campaign.

“As the Republican candidates honor Presidents’ Day on social media, is it too much to ask them to finally acknowledge the legitimacy of our current President? It’s been 398 days since President Biden was inaugurated, and the GOP gubernatorial candidates still have yet to acknowledge that he won a free and fair election,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “Every day, the far-right candidates sink deeper into the conspiracy theorist rabbithole, championing Trump’s Big Lie in a desperate attempt to win over the MAGA base and make it out of their ugly primary. If they really want to honor Presidents’ Day, they should stop undermining our democracy.”
