GOP Senate Field Takes Nasty Primary To CPAC

The candidates in the country’s nastiest primary continue to chase the extreme ends of the GOP while attacking each other

PENNSYLVANIA – This weekend the candidates in the PA GOP primary descended on Orlando to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference, a collection of MAGA conservatives that shared a speaker with a white nationalist convention. Despite the new location, the weekend saw more of the same: the GOP field battling with each other while appealing to the most extreme.

While at the conference, Mehmet Oz showed he has no plans to tone down the intra-party attacks that have come to define the primary, telling Fox News “he never expected [the] Pennsylvania GOP Senate primary would get so ‘ugly,’ but vows to ‘fight to protect myself”.

Jeff Bartos continued to throw shade at the carpetbagger candidates:

For months Bartos has continuously touted that his “whole career has been focused on Pennsylvania.” And the candidate, his campaign, and an outside super PAC supporting Bartos have repeatedly taken aim at Oz and McCormick. Bartos once again called them “political tourists” who he claims “came to Pennsylvania to serve themselves”

Despite recent attempts to recast himself as a faithful MAGA devotee, David McCormick was not a featured speaker at the MAGA conference. Something that Oz was happy to point out:

When asked about McCormick, who made remarks at a private luncheon here Thursday, Oz smirked.

“All I know is I got invited by Matt to speak on Sunday morning,” Oz said, referring to Matt Schlapp, the Trump ally who chairs CPAC. “It’s a pretty difficult speaking gig to pull off. It might be the right time, right place. I’m just looking forward to doing a good job at it.”
