HARRISBURG REPUBLICANS PUT THE INSURANCE LOBBY BEFORE CHILDHOOD SEX ABUSE VICTIMS

PENNSYLVANIA — Yesterday, in an interview on FOX 43’s Capitol Beat, PA Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward made it clear that she will continue to block legislation that would give childhood sexual abuse victims their day in court.

The reason? Harrisburg Republican leaders are in the pockets of the insurance lobby.

For years, the insurance lobby has waged a quiet, behind-the-scenes campaign to kill legislation benefiting survivors — preventing victims of childhood sexual abuse from getting the justice they deserve.

Between Jake Corman and Kim Ward, Republican leadership in the Senate has benefited significantly from the insurance lobby’s influence, receiving more than $130,000 in political donations.

“Harrisburg Republicans are so deep in the pockets of special interests like the insurance lobby that they’re preventing childhood sexual abuse survivors from receiving overdue justice,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman Brendan Welch. “The Republican Legislature is broken. Republican Senate leaders are taking their cues from lobbyists who will do anything but put everyday Pennsylvanians first. Vulnerable Republican legislators, be warned: Pennsylvania voters will hold you accountable for working for special interests instead of working for our communities.”
