HIGHLIGHTS: AHEAD OF WOMEN FOR TRUMP BUS TOUR LAUNCH, PA DEMS, CONGRESSWOMAN DEAN & SENATOR COLLETT DISCUSS HOW TRUMP’S BROKEN PROMISES AND COVID-19 RESPONSE HAVE FAILED PENNSYLVANIA WOMEN

PENNSYLVANIA — Ahead of the “Women For Trump” Bus Tour kickoff in Montgomery County Pennsylvania, PA Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills, Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (PA-4), and Senator Maria Collett (D-Bucks/Montgomery) hosted a virtual press conference to highlight how the Trump administration’s anti-woman agenda and disastrous coronavirus response have failed Pennsylvania women.

A recording of the virtual press conference can be found here and an audio clip is available here. Check out some of the highlights below:

Chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills, Pennsylvania Democratic Party:

“This tour won’t erase Donald Trump’s record broken promises to Pennsylvania women, including his ongoing failure to deal with the coronavirus crisis. Since his first day as President, Donald Trump has always put his personal political interest before the health and safety of Pennsylvania women and all of our families. That’s why he rolled back Obama-Biden era protections against workplace sexual harassment and pay disparities.

That’s why he’s in court trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, which has done more to deliver comprehensive health care coverage and lower costs for women than any legislation in over half a century. It’s why he keeps trying to enact massive cuts to Medicaid that will leave working Pennsylvania women out in the cold when it comes to their health care…

If Trump and his allies really cared about 3,700 Pennsylvania women who have lost their lives to coronavirus, they’d deliver on a national testing strategy, start to listen to experts and abandon their politically motivated rush to open schools before it’s safe to do so.”

Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (PA-4), U.S. House of Representatives

“What’s very, very sad is that we can’t rely on this President for the truth, for the facts. In fact, what he does is distort and lie — and it is to the peril of women and to children and to livelihoods and the life of our democracy. What we’ve seen now are millions of people uninsured in this country as a result of the pandemic. We’ve seen millions of people lose their jobs. We have tens of thousands of whom are dead as a result of coronavirus because of the President.

Women still make less than men. [They make] 81 cents on the dollar to men in this country. So rather than lift up women and lift up equality for women in terms of treatment of healthcare, and our economy. You see a President who tears down women, who wants to tear away health care, who wants to put our children at risk.…

The Trump administration doesn’t seem to see those needs of America’s families and America’s women. But we’ll keep fighting. We’ll send the message loud and clear. The President who does not honor women — who actually is quite misogynistic toward women — is not worthy to continue to lead this country.”

Senator Maria Collett (D-Bucks/Montgomery), Pennsylvania State Senate

“We’re now heading into the fifth month of this crisis and the President hasn’t come up with any real plan to get us back on the right track. The President didn’t cause the COVID-19 pandemic, but he has made it infinitely worse. His erratic decision making, refusal to listen to experts, and rejection of basic science has caused our country countless, needless deaths and contributed to the biggest economic crunch since the Great Depression.

Nearly 7,400 Pennsylvanians have lost their lives, millions more are out of work, and Trump is deploying surrogates on a bus tour for his reelection… Instead of planning a tour, he and his allies should be coming up with a plan [to create] a national testing strategy, an immediate plan to get struggling workers economic relief, and guidance on how to safely reopen schools…

We’re tired of the politics. We don’t need any more bus tours or photo ops. We just need a president who will do the job and I’m excited for November 3 and the chance to vote for someone who will make my family and my constituents safer and more secure.”
