HIGHLIGHTS: PA DEMS, ALLEGHENY COUNTY EXEC RICH FITZGERALD & CENTRAL LABOR COUNCIL PRESIDENT DARRIN KELLY CONTINUE “BROKEN PROMISES TOUR” AS TRUMP HEADS TO PITTSBURGH

PENNSYLVANIA — Ahead of President Trump’s visit to Moon Township today, PA Dems Chair Nancy Patton Mills, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, and Allegheny/Fayette Central Labor Council President Darrin Kelly hosted a virtual press conference to discuss how the Trump administration’s broken promises and economic policy have left working families in western Pennsylvania behind.

This event continues the Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s “Broken Promises” tour — a statewide series designed to highlight the local impact of President Trump’s failed economic policies.

A recording of the virtual press conference can be found here, and an audio clip is available here. Check out some of the highlights below:

Chair Nancy Patton Mills, Pennsylvania Democratic Party:

“[Trump] promised he’d bring back manufacturing — but the manufacturing sector went into a recession in 2019 and there are almost 3,000 fewer manufacturing jobs in Pittsburgh today than there were at the end of the Obama-Biden administration. He promised he’d get tough on China and bring back jobs to the U.S. — but he created a tax loophole that rewards companies for shipping jobs overseas…. I don’t expect much from the president’s rally tonight, except more lies and more broken promises…but I’m optimistic. I’m optimistic that in just over 40 days, we’ll elect a tested, proven leader in Joe Biden, who has a detailed plan to build our nation back better.”

County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Allegheny County:

“Chair Mills also mentioned the economy and unemployment that we haven’t seen in years. You know, the old question that Ronald Reagan used to ask: Are you better off than you were four years ago? I think all of us in America and western Pennsylvania can answer that with a resounding no. Our families are at risk, our health is at risk. And now we see that pre-existing condition protections [are] at risk — because the fifth vote on that five to four decision unfortunately passed away this weekend. And now we’ve got a Supreme Court that is prepared to strip away the Affordable Care Act, because President Trump is in court trying to take away health care and protection of pre-existing conditions for all of our families.”

President Darrin Kelly, Allegheny/Fayette Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO:

“One fact that everyone needs to know is that OSHA at this time has the record lowest number of inspectors in the history of this agency. At this current rate, it would take 160 years —160 years — for the agency to inspect every workplace under its jurisdiction. Now that right there is not someone that’s a friend of the worker. These are things that could be handled through the budget process; [Trump] chose not to invest in that. So you make promises during campaigns, it’s people like ourselves’ jobs to remind that a lot of these have not came through.”
