In his testimony yesterday before the January 6th committee, George W. Bush appointee and former Federal Judge J. Michael Luttig called out Doug Mastriano’s election lies.
PENNSYLVANIA — Yesterday, at the second consecutive hearing, Doug Mastriano was once again called out for spreading dangerous election lies and threatening to throw out Pennsylvanians’ votes — this time by a former George W. Bush appointee and longtime Federalist Society luminary, J. Michael Luttig. In sworn testimony, Luttig called Mastriano a “clear and present danger to democracy” because they could try to overturn the 2024 election “in the same way they tried to overturn the 2020 election.”
Doug Mastriano “is perhaps the state’s most prominent promoter of former President Donald Trump’s lie that widespread fraud cost him the 2020 election,” and he led the effort to overturn the 2020 election, stood with rioters as they attacked police and stormed the Capitol on January 6th, and has been subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 Committee. Looking ahead to future elections, Mastriano has threatened that he can decertify all of the state’s voting machines “with the stroke of a pen” — and he could try to throw out Pennsylvanians’ votes if he doesn’t like the results.
“Doug Mastriano tried to throw out Pennsylvanians’ votes and he’s threatened to overturn future elections on the campaign trail, so it’s not surprising that he’s become a regular fixture of the January 6th hearings,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “Mastriano was at the Capitol, he stood with the rioters on January 6th, and as he runs for Governor, he is doubling down on his dangerous extremism. As J. Michael Luttig says, he truly is a clear and present danger to democracy.”
