ICYMI: PA DEMS HOLD PENCE ACCOUNTABLE FOR BROKEN PROMISES ON JOBS, UNIONS DURING HIS SWPA VISIT

As Vice President Pence traveled to southwestern Pennsylvania, elected officials and labor leaders in the region blasted the Trump administration’s broken promises to workers. Check out some coverage below.

Before Pence even touched down, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party called out the administration’s failed record:

Beaver County Times: “The Pennsylvania Democratic Party, however, noted that Pence’s visit was announced on the same day that the Bureau of Labor Statistics said the nation’s unemployment rate stood at 8.4 percent.

‘Mike Pence and Donald Trump are desperate to talk about anything except their failed economy and historic recession that has caused the unemployment rate for Pennsylvanians to more than double since they took office,’ said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman Andres Anzola.”

Beaver County Democratic Party Chair Terri Mitko penned a guest column in the Beaver County Times

Beaver County Times: “Communities like Beaver County trusted [Trump] to keep his promises, bring jobs back to our region, and get our economy booming again. But here we are four years later and the truth is, we are worse off than before. And today, Mike Pence is coming to town to try and tell Beaver County workers that he and Trump are on our side. Nothing could be farther from the truth.”

And before Pence delivered his remarks, key leaders from southwestern Pennsylvania hosted a virtual press conference to call out the Trump-Pence administration’s broken promises on the economy:

Pittsburgh’s Action News 4: “As Vice President Mike Pence headlined a “Workers for Trump” event in Beaver County, Pennsylvania Democratic leaders charged President Donald Trump has failed to deliver on his promises here. ‘He (Trump) had promised he was going to bring back steel mills and we would be stronger than ever. and that just has dropped,’ said Bob Williams, a steelworker who is running as a Democrat for a seat in the Pennsylvania State House.”

Beaver County Times: “Beaver County Democrats lambasted President Donald Trump’s ‘job-killing’ policies and COVID-19 response ahead of Vice President Mike Pence’s latest visit to western Pennsylvania… Williams, a U.S. Marine veteran, has worked for Hussey Copper in Leetsdale for more than 22 years and is a shop steward for United Steelworkers Local 1211.

Beaver County residents eagerly voted for Trump four years ago based on the then-candidate’s promises to return steel mills to their former glory, he said. ‘It’s plain to see he broke his promise,’ Williams said, pointing to Pennsylvania’s recent decline in manufacturing jobs.”

CBS Pittsburgh: “[Beaver County Dems Chair] Mitko says Beaver County was sold a bill of goods by Trump four years ago. ‘He has not kept his promises,’ she said. ‘We have lost hundreds and hundreds of family-sustaining jobs in Beaver County since Trump took over. That’s the reality.’ Mitko says Beaver County Democrats won’t be fooled again and even some Republicans are switching to Joe Biden.”

CBS 21: “Beaver County Democrats responded to the Vice President’s visit during a virtual press conference. They called out the Trump Administration’s policy decisions saying they had broken their promises to workers across the state. ‘Today’s event won’t erase four years of Donald Trump’s broken promises to Pennsylvania workers and it won’t bring back the hundreds and hundreds of jobs in Beaver County and throughout southern Pennsylvania.’”
