IN PHILADELPHIA: BIDEN IS BUILDING THE ECONOMY, REPUBLICANS ARE COMING FOR MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY

Republicans have it all backwards. Their plan literally calls for increasing taxes on middle class and working people and cutting taxes on corporations and wealthy Americans.”

PENNSYLVANIA — President Joe Biden laid out a stark contrast in Philadelphia at today’s AFL-CIO convention: while he and Democrats have cut taxes for working families across the commonwealth and laid out a plan to lower costs, Republicans are running on an agenda that would force families to pay more than millionaires and billionaires, and jeopardize Medicare and Social Security.

“I happen to believe that no billionaire should be paying a lower tax rate than a teacher, a firefighter, electrician or a cop,” said President Biden. Republicans have it all backwards. Their plan literally calls for increasing taxes on middle class and working people and cutting taxes on corporations and wealthy Americans.”

In Pennsylvania, the Republican plan would:

  • Raise taxes on working families, including more than 35% of Pennsylvanians
  • Phase out Social Security and Medicare after five years
  • Be devastating for 2,766,532 Pennsylvania seniors who rely on Medicare and 2.5  million Pennsylvanians who rely on Social Security, forcing vulnerable Pennsylvanians to bear the financial burden of this plan

While Republicans have shown that they will stop at nothing to achieve their dangerous agenda, President Biden’s economic vision builds the economy from the middle out and bottom up, not top down. Since Biden took office, the Pennsylvania economy has added 276,500 jobs and the unemployment rate is near historic lows at 3.7%, all while delivering the biggest drop in deficit in the history of the United States of America.
