The U.S. House of Representatives voted to censure Rep. Gosar and strip him of his committee assignments, but Lou Barletta still hasn’t rejected his endorsement or condemned his dangerous actions.
PENNSYLVANIA — Rep. Paul Gosar (AZ) tweeted a violent cartoon showing him stabbing and killing Democratic elected officials — but Lou Barletta has stayed silent, seemingly content to have the support of the disgraced far-right conspiracy theorist. Barletta must immediately reject Rep. Gosar’s endorsement and denounce his calls for violence.
In June — months after he helped plan the January 6th rally and called the 2020 election a “coup” — Rep. Gosar endorsed Lou Barletta’s campaign for Governor:
Gosar has refused to publicly apologize for encouraging deadly violence towards other elected officials, and yesterday, the House — including two Republicans — voted to censure Rep. Gosar and strip him of his committee assignments.
Barletta has a long history of courting far-right extremists and having relationships with dangerous conspiracy theorists. He has associated with Holocaust deniers, campaigned for Governor with an “extreme antigovernment group” in August, and promoted an endorsement from insurrection conspiracy theorist Rose Tennent.
“Lou Barletta has a long history of courting the far-right, from associating with Holocaust deniers to elevating dangerous conspiracy theorists who’ve defended the Jan. 6 insurrection — and he’s also been endorsed by disgraced Congressman Paul Gosar who was censured by The House of Representatives for making threats of violence towards other elected officials,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “Gosar’s threats of violence have been condemned by Democrats and Republicans alike, and Barletta must immediately reject Gosar’s endorsement and denounce his dangerous threats of violence.”
