MASTRIANO SHARES OZ’S POSITION THAT ABORTION IS “MURDER”

NBC: “Mastriano said women who violated proposed abortion ban should be charged with murder”

PENNSYLVANIA – New reporting from NBC highlights just how dangerous Pennsylvania’s GOP ticket is when it comes to reproductive freedoms. The report exposes an old recording of Mastriano saying women who get abortions should be charged with murder:

State Sen. Doug Mastriano, the Republican nominee for governor in Pennsylvania, said in 2019 that women should be charged with murder if they violated his proposed abortion ban.

In an interview with Pennsylvania radio station WITF, Mastriano was pressed about a bill he sponsored that would generally bar abortions when a fetal heartbeat could first be detected, usually around six weeks. Mastriano’s remarks in that interview were previously unreported.

Asked if he was saying yes, they should be charged with murder, Mastriano responded: “Yes, I am.”

These comments are similar to previous comments made by Oz, who said “abortion is ‘murder’ at any stage of pregnancy”. Both candidates, who recently appeared together at a rally in Wilkes-Barre, have made it clear that they would be a threat to reproductive rights if elected.

Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Jack Doyle issued the following statement:

“Mehmet Oz called abortion murder and has made it clear that he would be a threat to reproductive rights if elected. Abortion is on the ballot in this election, and Pennsylvanians cannot trust either of these out-of-touch lunatics.”
