PA DEMS APPLAUD PRESIDENT BIDEN AND VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS’ LEADERSHIP ON VOTING RIGHTS

PENNSYLVANIA — During a powerful speech in Atlanta today, President Biden and Vice President Harris forcefully advocated for protecting the right to vote, ensuring free, fair, and secure elections, and changing the Senate rules to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. In response, Pennsylvania Democratic Party Executive Director Jason Henry issued the following statement:

“President Biden and Vice President Harris doubled down on their unshakeable commitment to defending Americans’ right to vote and ensuring that every election is free, fair, and secure. This is critical in Pennsylvania and across the nation, and we are proud to stand with this administration against Republican obstruction and defend our fundamental right to vote.

“What is at stake is laid out so clearly in Pennsylvania, where Republican gubernatorial candidates promote Trump’s Big Lie, continue to push a ‘fraudit’ that would put millions of our citizens’ private information at risk, and spread dangerous disinformation in order to gut voting rights. Republicans running for Governor and Senate are in an extreme race to the bottom of the far-right barrel.

“As President Biden has said, the battle for the soul of America is a fight we will win. The U.S. House of Representatives has taken decisive action to protect our democracy, and now it’s time for the Senate to follow suit. The Pennsylvania Democratic Party calls on every member of the U.S. Senate to join President Biden and Vice President Harris in this commitment and pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect our elections and secure the right to vote for all Americans.”
