PENNSYLVANIA — Today following the United States Senate passage of the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act, a bipartisan bill that will hold China accountable and provide a once-in-a-generation investment in America’s workers and economy, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party is calling on all GOP Senate candidates to support the legislation.
“This bill is an opportunity to strengthen Pennsylvania’s economy and stand up to China, and all the GOP candidates for U.S. Senate should be on record publicly supporting this bipartisan effort,” said Pennnsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Jack Doyle. “In refusing to support the bill, Pennsylvania’s GOP Senate candidates signal to voters that they are more concerned with MAGA loyalty tests and fringe conspiracy theories than the issues that actually affect the people of our commonwealth.”
Some facts around the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act :
- Increases investment in the Manufacturing USA Program, which funds public and private partnership technology hubs, including Pittsburgh’s Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute.
- The bill will crack down on Chinese exploitation and hold China accountable for theft of U.S. intellectual property and cyber attacks against the U.S. and American entities
- It is a “broad bipartisan effort to counter China’s economic and geopolitical ambitions” and a “bright spot” in an increasingly partisan Washington
- The bipartisan act authorizes more than $120 billion in investments into research and key technological education and training programs, over $49 billion in “expanding the American semiconductor industry” and 5G broadband network to “strengthen the U.S. tech sector as it competes against China.”
