PA DEMS CHAIR: JIM BREWSTER COURT VICTORY SHOWS CORMAN’S FAILED LEADERSHIP

Mills: “Here’s how you restore confidence: tell the truth. Call out the serial liars and propagandists in your own caucus. Seat Senators who win free and fair elections.”

PENNSYLVANIA — Today, Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairwoman Nancy Patton Mills issued the following statement:

“We are so pleased that the Court has once again ruled that Senator Brewster won his election. He is a dedicated and passionate servant of the public and we look forward to four more years of his leadership.

We would be remiss, though, if we did not call out the incredible dereliction of duty by Jake Corman and Harrisburg Republicans that led us to this moment. Every observer knew this ruling was coming, so it would be easy to call this a waste of everyone’s time, but it’s much worse than that. Jake Corman’s refusal to seat a certified election winner and the resulting chaos are part of the same pattern of behavior we’ve seen for many months: fanning the flames of lies, conspiracy theories and paranoia that led to violent insurrection against our democracy.

This is not just about Senate District 45. It’s about a complete failure of leadership by Corman and Harrisburg Republicans. It’s about a legislature that urges Congress to overturn a free and fair election, holds taxpayer-funded sham hearings to cast doubt on the election results, and hides their plan to restrict voting under codewords about ‘concern’ and ‘confidence’ after the most transparent election in our commonwealth’s history.

Here’s how you restore confidence: tell the truth. Call out the serial liars and propagandists in your own caucus. Seat Senators who win free and fair elections, especially when the legal challenges against them are guaranteed to fail.

Last week we saw the tragic end result of their campaign of lies, but Harrisburg Republicans show no remorse. They continue to cause panic and paranoia around our election system, and attempt to exploit it for their own gain.

Corman could at least try to make this right, but that seems to be asking too much of him. Harrisburg needs to be cleaned up, and that starts by ending his majority.”
