PA DEMS STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO PASSING OF SENATOR MILTON T. STREET

PENNSYLVANIA – Today Senator T. Milton Street, former Philadelphia activist as well as State Senator and State Representative, passed away at the age of 81. Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman Sharif Street issued the following statement in response to the passing of his uncle:

“It is with much sadness and pride that I reflect on the incredible life of my uncle, Senator Milton T. Street.

He was a man who personified a love for his community. He served the community of his church, city, and commonwealth with a dedication to fighting for others and improving the lives of those around him. It was this dedication that allowed him to go from a street cart vendor to one of the most ardent and impactful activists and public servants Pennsylvania has ever seen.

Whether it was in his role as a State Representative, a State Senator, or a leader in the Philadelphia community, he used his talent and passion to improve Pennsylvania, especially for those so often ignored by our political system.

As so many are remembering Senator Street today, this is the legacy they are able to reflect on. Someone who fought for the voiceless, who cared so much about those around him, and who never forgot where he came from.

The best way to honor this legacy is to continue to fight for a better Pennsylvania, and that is what we plan to do.”
