PA DEMS STATEMENT ON FIRST GOP PA-GOV DEBATE

PENNSYLVANIA — Following the first GOP gubernatorial debate on Dickinson College’s campus in Carlisle this evening, Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem issued the following statement:

“Tonight’s debate confirmed what we already knew — none of these Republican candidates were ready for primetime and they clearly aren’t qualified to run our Commonwealth. Republicans spent 90 minutes parroting absurd conspiracy theories about COVID-19, peddling Trump’s election lies that undermine our democracy, and comparing Democrats to Nazis, once again showing their true colors.

“This wide open race-to-the-right is just getting started, and while we’ve got a long way to go, it’s guaranteed that whoever wins the GOP primary will be an extreme, out-of-touch MAGA wannabe with a commitment to forcing a dangerous and unpopular agenda on the Commonwealth — even if it harms Pennsylvanians. The only thing the far-right candidates on the crowded stage succeeded in this evening was reiterating to Pennsylvania families how high the stakes are for electing a Democratic Governor in 2022.”
