PA REPUBLICANS RIP GUBERNATORIAL NOMINEE DOUG MASTRIANO: “HE’S UNELECTABLE.”

“MASTRIANO IS A CLOWN, IT’S GOING TO BE A BLOOD BATH.”

Republicans’ nightmare scenario just came true. Doug Mastriano is their nominee for Governor — and they’ve made clear how they feel about their extreme nominee.

PENNSYLVANIA — Pennsylvania Republicans’ biggest fear has just come true: they’ve nominated Doug Mastriano, an extreme and dangerous conspiracy theorist who participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection, has spoken at a QAnon branded conference and shared QAnon posts on social media, and wants to outlaw abortion with no exceptions.

Republicans have been warning that Mastriano is not “a viable general election candidate” for months, and with him atop the ticket, one GOP strategist is cautioning that it’s going to “be like the voyage of the Titanic, but no survivors.”

Let’s take a look back at what Republicans have said about their own “disaster” of a gubernatorial nominee:

“If PA Republicans nominate Mastriano, they will be guaranteeing a Shapiro victory.” — Bill McSwain, May 2022

“We can’t treat this primary like a suicide mission, where we nominate somebody who’s going to get his clock cleaned by Shapiro in the fall.” — Bill McSwain, May 2022

“[Mastriano is] the weakest, most beatable candidate possible.” — Bill McSwain, May 2022

“You can’t put somebody in the ring who can’t beat him.” — Lou Barletta, referring to Doug Mastriano, May 2022

“I think Mastriano is too hot, too conservative, too far out, too far right for the Pennsylvania general electorate,” he predicted. “I think [Democrat] Josh Shapiro will be the victor in that race. And I think that’s why you saw the Wall Street Journal and many mainstream Republicans wringing their hands about Doug Mastriano at the top of the ticket. They fear he’ll be a big drag on the ticket and will weigh down the race.” — former Trump adviser David Urban, CNN, May 2022

“It would be like the voyage of the Titanic, but no survivors.” — GOP strategist with extensive experience working in Pennsylvania, The Hill, May 2022

“Hell, yeah. Everyone that I know has a concern about his electability,” — Josh Novotney, a former campaign finance director for Sen. Pat Toomey, POLITICO, May 2022

“Mastriano ‘in our judgment would get clobbered by Shapiro in a general election.’” — Pennsylvania Pro-Life Coalition, May 2022

“What that tells people that look at polls and data is that he’s unelectable in November. And the gap is so large that it could put our majorities in the Pennsylvania House and the Pennsylvania Senate in jeopardy.” — Allegheny County GOP Chair Sam DeMarco, WTAE, May 2022

“Trump’s interference in Pennsylvania is going to cost us the governor’s office in the fall, which, by the way, is very important to hold when you are running for president in 2024, but there is a chance it could also cost us the Senate seat.” — Jackie Kulback, the head of the Cambria County Republican Party, Washington Examiner, May 2022

“Trump cares so much about election integrity, that he’s ensured a Democrat wins the governorship of one of the most important swing states in the country. Mastriano is a clown, it’s going to be a blood bath.” — GOP Political consultant and OANN political correspondent Ryan James Girdusky, Twitter, May 2022

“I was extremely disappointed when Mr. Trump came out and endorsed Mr. Mastriano.” — former Rep. Tom Marino, Breitbart, May 2022
