PENNSYLVANIA — The latest poll in the Pennsylvania Senate race is another dead-heat, spelling bad news for unpopular incumbent Pat Toomey. By an overwhelming margin of 45%, Pennsylvania voters oppose Toomey’s unprecedented, months-long obstruction of Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland. Voters say Toomey’s position will make them less likely to vote for him by a nearly 2-1 difference. And a wide majority of Pennsylvanians don’t agree with Toomey’s conclusion that Donald Trump should be trusted to nominate the next Justice.

Discontent with Toomey is rising as revelations come to light that he was an investor and board member of a shady for-profit college. He also didn’t do himself any favors with his vote last week against the strongest measure to keep suspected terrorists from obtaining firearms. The various headwinds for Toomey have manifested in a conspicuous strategy of refusing to talk to the press and often hiding in elevators when faced with tough questions.

“Pat Toomey’s re-election campaign is taking on water every day,” said Preston Maddock, Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman. “His obstruction of an impeccably qualified Supreme Court nominee is yet another reminder that Toomey is part of the Republicans in Washington that gridlock the gears of government. Toomey may hide from reporters in elevators, but he’s not getting off that easy with Pennsylvanian voters looking at his record and the unhinged presidential candidate that leads his party.”
