Toomey’s Health Care Plan By The Numbers

Groups across the country have studied and analyzed Pat Toomey’s version of Trumpcare and their findings point to a consensus: it is a disaster. Whether it’s slashing Medicaid funding for substance-use disorder treatment or causing millions to lose health insurance, Toomey’s version of Trumpcare is awful no matter how you look at it.

Here’s a breakdown:

22 million – The Congressional Budget Office’s estimate of how many Americans would lose health insurance if Toomey’s plan were to become law.

731,000 – The number of Pennsylvanians who would lose health insurance because of Senator Toomey, per the Center for American Progress.

$772 billion – The amount of funding Pat Toomey’s plan cuts from Medicaid according to the CBO.

$16 Billion – The amount in Medicaid funding Pennsylvania will lose under Toomey’s health care plan according to Avalere.

25% – 288% – The percent by which people will see their health care premiums increase if Toomey’s plan becomes law, per the Kaiser Family Foundation.

197% – Pennsylvania’s uninsured would rate be this much higher under Toomey’s bill by 2022, per the Urban Institute.

16% – The approval rating of Toomey’s health care plan according to Quinnipiac.

“Pat Toomey and 12 other senators — after consulting zero health care experts and holding zero public hearings on the bill — came up with a plan that will cause 22 million Americans to lose health insurance but will give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires,” said Brandon Cwalina, spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. “Pat Toomey’s health care plan just doesn’t add up for the Pennsylvanians whose health care he is putting in jeopardy.”
