Trump-favorite Mastriano doubles down on the Big Lie as he prepares for “a potential run for statewide office.”
PENNSYLVANIA — Donald Trump’s “influence remains as powerful as ever” over the Pennsylvania Republicans, and today, his former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani is in Pennsylvania to raise money for state Senator and likely gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano. Giuliani and Mastriano led the effort to overturn the election and continue to spread dangerous lies and misinformation about the 2020 election — and now Mastriano is doubling down on those lies to appeal to the Trump base in Pennsylvania.
As Republicans fight among themselves to claim the “super MAGA Trump” mantle, Giuliani told a Chambersburg radio show on Friday that Mastriano is “the best” and “President Trump agrees.”
“Rudy Giuliani led the effort to overturn the election in Pennsylvania, and ahead of his likely run for Governor, Trump-favorite Doug Mastriano is setting a new standard to show his loyalty to Donald Trump and his Big Lie,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesman Brendan Welch. “For Republican candidates, showing loyalty to Donald Trump is more important than addressing the issues facing everyday Pennsylvanians, and the Republican primary for Governor will be a race to bottom defined by lies, conspiracy theories, and Trumpian purity tests.”
Giuliani’s fundraiser comes just weeks after his apartment was raided by the FBI as part of an ongoing investigation into his lobbying work, but that hasn’t stopped Mastriano from embracing the disgraced attorney. Other likely gubernatorial candidates are trying to match Mastriano’s Trumpian bonafides: Trump super-fan Lou Barletta lavished praise on Trump this week in an interview with One America News Network and Bill McSwain refused to say whether he believes the results of the 2020 election were valid.
