TRUMP’S THREATS OVER INFRASTRUCTURE BILL SPREAD TO GOVERNOR’S RACES — WILL THE GOP PA-GOV CANDIDATES CHOOSE TRUMP OVER PENNSYLVANIA AGAIN?

PENNSYLVANIA — It’s no secret Donald Trump hates President Biden’s historic infrastructure package — and he’s going after Republicans who support it too — something far-right governors and gubernatorial hopefuls from Florida to Pennsylvania appear to be embracing.

President Biden’s bill could create 50,000 infrastructure-related jobs in Pennsylvania and help the Commonwealth rebuild its roads, expand internet connectivity, and ensure everyone has safe, clean drinking water. But despite the good it will do for American families, far-right governors and candidates across the country are refusing to support it — simply because Donald Trump told them not to. They are either dodging questions about the bipartisan bill or outright dissing it, like Florida’s GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, who called it “Pork-barrel spending.”

Pennsylvania’s Republican gubernatorial candidates have so far fallen in line behind Trump, refusing to support this bill. It’s yet to be seen whether their silence will be enough for Trump, or if they’ll join DeSantis in embracing the latest far-right “purity test.”

Trump’s shadow still looms over the GOP, and the far-right gubernatorial candidates are in a tough spot — put Trump’s desires above Pennsylvania or face the wrath of Trump and his MAGA base.

“It’s time for the far-right candidates to stop hiding from Pennsylvanians and simply answer the question: Do you support this historic legislation or do you stand with Trump and DeSantis in putting politics ahead of Pennsylvania families?” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “While Democrats continue delivering for the people, the far-right field’s silence is once again showing Pennsylvanians that none of these candidates will serve the people of Pennsylvania in the Governor’s office — they’ll only live to serve Trump.”
