Mastriano’s entrance is sure to supercharge the Republican race to the bottom.
PENNSYLVANIA – Today, Doug Mastriano announced that he’s forming an exploratory committee for a potential gubernatorial campaign, taking a concrete step towards running and joining the increasingly crowded “Super MAGA” PA-Gov primary.
Mastriano has been a vocal proponent of the Big Lie and absurd election conspiracy theories for over a year — even traveling to New York earlier this year to meet with Trump himself about the fraudit and his political future, and touring the disgraced Arizona sham “audit” courtesy of One America News’ Christina Bobb. Mastriano was the chief architect of Harrisburg Republicans’ fraudit, which is now seeking the private, personal information of nine million Pennsylvania voters, he’s consistently spread misinformation about COVID vaccines, and he’s praised Texas’ abortion ban as “great news” and introduced a similar bill in Pennsylvania.
At the same time, Mastriano has attacked other Republicans who do not sufficiently embrace his far-right agenda. Last week, he attacked Pennsylvania’s Republican Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman for “self promotion” and “self advancement” instead of supporting Donald Trump’s lies.
“Republicans were already fighting among themselves to show the far-right who would embrace the most extreme, divisive agenda, and Doug Mastriano’s entrance is sure to supercharge the race to the bottom,” said Pennsylvania Democratic Party spokesperson Marisa Nahem. “Mastriano is the original architect of Harrisburg Republicans’ fraudit and for months, he has spread misinformation and peddled absurd conspiracy theories while attacking fellow Republicans. His entry into the primary is the surest sign yet that Republicans are more interested in far-right litmus tests than addressing the challenges Pennsylvanians face every day.”
